On Halloween

Is there anything that brings more joy and excitement than the annual airing of 'It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown'?

For a show that will be celebrating its forty second birthday it is still able to define what Halloween means to so many of us.

The carving of the pumpkins, the homemade Halloween costumes, the trick or treating, and of course awaiting the Great Pumpkin himself are all hallmarks of this magical holiday.

I recall, as a child, watching this great animated adventure. Each year I would laugh hysterically as Charlie Brown was doomed to receive rock after rock trick or treating. I remember always feeling sorry for Sally when she spent her Halloween night waiting in a pumpkin patch with her 'sweet baboo' rather than filling a bag with candy and celebrating with Lucy at her awesome Halloween party. I hope somebody shared their Halloween spoils with the poor girl.

Every year, I always disliked Lucy for pulling that football away from Charlie Brown, but at the end of the thirty minute adventure Lucy always warmed my heart when she wrapped a blanket around her little brother who was exhausted and freezing in the pumpkin patch.

So, pop your popcorn, light your jack o lanterns, and get ready to watch this Halloween classic. It airs this year, 2008, on Tuesday, October 28 at 8/7c on ABC.
